Captain of the Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E, a diplomat and amateur archaeologist who was once assimilated by the Borg.
Jean-Luc Picard is the captain of the USS Enterprise-D and later the Enterprise-E, leading The Next Generation. A thoughtful, diplomatic and cultured commander, he favors reason and negotiation over force, yet can be formidable when his ship or principles are threatened. He is also a lover of archaeology, Shakespeare and tea.
His most harrowing experience is his assimilation by the Borg, which leaves lasting scars even after he is rescued. He forms deep bonds with Riker, Data, Troi, Crusher and the rest of his crew, and his story continues in the feature films, where he confronts the Borg again and a vengeful adversary. In later years he is seen in an admiral's role, then leads a new adventure in the series Picard, dealing with old regrets, synthetic life and a final reunion with his old crew.
Picard became a model of ethical leadership, admired for his speeches about duty and his willingness to defend the rights of others, including sentient artificial beings.
