Alrik is the chancellor of Valt Minor and its representative at the peace ceremony with Krios. As part of the treaty he is to marry Kamala, the empathic metamorph whom the Kriosians have prepared for him.
In The Perfect Mate, Alrik proves to be far more interested in the politics and trade of the treaty than in his bride. Kamala goes through with the marriage regardless, having bonded with Picard rather than Alrik, and the peace between Krios and Valt Minor is secured.
