On Nepenthe, Picard and Soji are sheltered by William Riker and Deanna Troi, while Hugh is killed on the Artifact and Jurati is revealed as a reluctant spy.
Commodore Oh is revealed to have shown Jurati, through a mind meld, visions convincing her synthetic life must be destroyed, and Jurati swallowed a tracker so Narek could follow La Sirena. Guilt-ridden, she injects herself into a coma to stop it. On the Artifact, Narissa kills Hugh, who gives Elnor a device to call the Fenris Rangers, Seven's vigilante group.
On Nepenthe, Picard reunites with William Riker and Deanna Troi, who live there with their daughter Kestra. Their son Thad died of an illness that might have been treated before the synth ban. They help Soji trust Picard and accept that she is an android. Samantha Humphrey and Michael Chabon wrote the episode and Doug Aarniokoski directed.
