Wesley Crusher sits the Starfleet Academy entrance exam while Starfleet investigates the ship.
Wesley Crusher takes the entrance examination for Starfleet Academy, competing against several other candidates, and has to face a surprising amount of pressure and self-doubt. At the same time, Admiral Quinn arrives on the Enterprise with an investigator, Lieutenant Commander Remmick, who begins asking questions about the Captain and the crew.
The two plots are quite different in tone, one a coming-of-age story and one a mystery that appears to hint at something wider in Starfleet. Remmick's investigation ties in directly with a conspiracy that would be revealed later in the season. Wesley's story ends with a lesson about character, and Picard offers him some encouragement.
