A living starship of immense power, the last of its kind, who found companionship with Betazoid telepath Tam Elbrun.
Gomtuu was a living spacecraft, a sentient creature that lived in space and once travelled alongside a crew. When its crew died long ago, Gomtuu was left alone and grieving. It turned up near Beta Stromgren, a star nearing the end of its life, apparently waiting to die there.
The Federation sent the troubled telepath Tam Elbrun to make contact, racing a Romulan ship that also wanted Gomtuu. Elbrun formed a deep bond with the creature, and the two left together after it hurled the Enterprise and the Romulans to safety. Their story is told in Tin Man.
