Geordi and a Romulan are stranded on a hostile planet.
Answering a distress signal on the stormy planet Galorndon Core, inside Federation territory near the Neutral Zone, an away team finds a crashed Romulan ship and one injured survivor. Geordi La Forge is separated from the team, and the storms prevent the Enterprise from beaming him back.
On the surface Geordi meets another Romulan, Bochra, and the two must cooperate to survive and signal for help. Aboard ship the injured Romulan needs a transfusion that only Worf can provide, and Worf refuses because Romulans killed his parents. The Romulan dies.
A Romulan warbird commanded by Tomalak arrives, and the two sides come close to fighting. Picard holds his nerve until Geordi and Bochra are rescued together. Tomalak would return several times in later episodes.
