English stage and screen actor who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard across seven seasons of The Next Generation, four feature films and Star Trek: Picard.
Patrick Stewart, an English actor born in 1940, played Captain Jean-Luc Picard in all seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation, which ran from 1987 to 1994. A classically trained performer and longtime member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, he brought a stage actor's gravity to the role and became the anchor of the ensemble.
He reprised Picard in all four Next Generation films, from Star Trek Generations to Star Trek: Nemesis, and also appeared in the Deep Space Nine pilot Emissary. Episodes such as The Best of Both Worlds, in which Picard is assimilated by the Borg as Locutus, and The Inner Light, in which he lives an entire lifetime in a matter of minutes, gave him some of the series' most celebrated material. He returned to lead Star Trek: Picard from 2020 to 2023 and served as one of its executive producers.
Outside Star Trek he is widely known as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men film series and for a long career on the stage, and he was knighted in 2010 for services to drama.
