Q's final trial of Picard stretches across three time periods.
The series finale begins with Captain Picard finding himself shifting through three time periods, the past, the present and the future, with no understanding of why. In each time, he sees the Enterprise crew facing a mysterious spatial anomaly, and he has to find a way to prevent a catastrophe that could end humanity. Q appears, and tells him that he is again on trial.
The story brings together the themes of the series, and it features appearances from many familiar characters and a satisfying conclusion. It is a two-hour finale that is regarded as one of the best series endings in television. It closes the circle that began in the pilot, with Q's trial of humanity, and ends with a final poker game that has become part of fan lore.
