Stellar cartography is the large mapping facility aboard the Enterprise-D, where officers study and project detailed star charts on a wraparound display.
The room surrounds its users with a projected view of the surrounding galaxy, allowing them to model star positions, trace energy phenomena and plan routes. It supports the science and navigation departments during survey missions and investigations.
Captain Picard and Data used stellar cartography to work out Tolian Soran's plan, tracing how the destruction of stars was changing the course of the Nexus ribbon and identifying the Veridian system as his next target.
