Jack Crusher, played by Ed Speleers, is the son of Jean-Luc Picard and Beverly Crusher, born in the 2380s. Beverly raised him in secret, away from Starfleet, and he grew up a restless rogue, traveling with her on a medical ship and often clashing with authority.
In Picard's third season, Jack and Beverly are hunted by the warship Shrike, and Picard learns for the first time that he has a son. Jack carries a unique genetic legacy linked to Picard's earlier assimilation by the Borg, which the Changelings and the Borg Queen want to exploit. The Queen draws him in as part of her plan to assimilate Starfleet's youth, but Picard reaches him and he chooses to resist. At the end of the series Jack joins Starfleet as an ensign and serves aboard the renamed USS Enterprise-G under Captain Seven of Nine.
Jack's story ties together Picard's past with the Borg and his future. He was positioned as the next generation of the Picard family in Starfleet.
