A thousand-year-old Promellian battle cruiser found intact inside a Menthar booby trap, which nearly claimed the Enterprise-D the same way.
The Cleponji was a Promellian battle cruiser from a war fought a millennium earlier between the Promellians and the Menthars, two species that had destroyed each other. The Enterprise-D found it drifting but almost perfectly preserved in an asteroid field that had been the site of their last battle.
Picard, a lifelong admirer of old ships, led the away team aboard himself and found a recorded log left by its captain. The message revealed that the ship had been caught by a Menthar trap that drained a vessel's power and turned its own energy against it as lethal radiation, and the Enterprise soon found itself caught in the same snare.
Geordi La Forge worked out an escape with the help of a holodeck recreation of engine designer Leah Brahms, and Picard personally flew the ship clear at minimal power using thrusters. Once free, the Enterprise destroyed the Cleponji so that it could not lure any other ship into the trap.
