A quantum filament cripples the Enterprise, leaving Troi in command of the bridge and other crew trapped across the ship.
The Enterprise collides with a quantum filament, which knocks out power and leaves the crew cut off from one another. Counselor Troi, the senior officer on the bridge, has to take command, weighing advice from O'Brien and Ensign Ro as a containment failure threatens to destroy the ship.
Across the ship, others face their own crises. Picard is stuck in a turbolift with three frightened children who won a science fair, Riker and Data crawl through the access tubes toward engineering, and Dr. Crusher and Geordi fight a fire in a cargo bay. In Ten Forward, Keiko O'Brien goes into labour and Worf has to deliver her daughter, Molly.
