A sentient weapons system traps the landing party on a dead world.
The Enterprise investigates the loss of the USS Drake, commanded by a friend of Riker, near the planet Minos, a world once known for selling weapons. On the surface an automated sales pitch triggers an adaptive weapon that attacks the away team, and Riker is trapped inside a stasis field.
Picard beams down to help, and he and Dr. Crusher fall into a cavern, where she is injured. Geordi La Forge is left in command of the Enterprise, which is under attack from an orbital drone. He separates the saucer section and leads the battle section himself.
Picard learns that the system killed the Minosians and shuts it off by agreeing to buy it. Geordi destroys the drone in orbit.
