In 2366 the Romulan admiral Alidar Jarok defected to the Federation to warn of a secret base, only to learn he had been fed false information.
In 2366 Admiral Alidar Jarok fled Romulan space in a stolen scout ship, posing as a low-ranking logistics officer. He told Picard that the Romulans were building a base at Nelvana III in the Neutral Zone in preparation for an attack. Jarok hoped that by exposing the plan he could prevent a war that would kill his daughter's generation.
The Enterprise found no base at Nelvana III, and Commander Tomalak's warbirds decloaked to capture the ship. The Romulan high command had planted the information to test Jarok's loyalty. Picard had arranged for Klingon ships to follow, and Tomalak withdrew. Jarok took his own life afterward.
