A Ferengi DaiMon becomes infatuated with Lwaxana Troi and kidnaps her, Deanna and Riker.
The Enterprise hosts a Betazoid trade conference attended by Lwaxana Troi and by a Ferengi delegation led by DaiMon Tog. Tog is taken with Lwaxana and her telepathic abilities, which he sees as a business asset, but she rejects him.
During a picnic on Betazed, Tog kidnaps Lwaxana, Deanna and Riker and takes them aboard his ship. Lwaxana pretends to accept Tog's advances in exchange for the others' freedom, while Deanna and Riker work to signal the Enterprise.
Picard follows the Ferengi and plays the part of Lwaxana's jealous lover, reciting romantic verse over the viewscreen to convince Tog to give her up. Meanwhile, Wesley's work helping the rescue makes him miss his ship to Starfleet Academy.
