Picard's vacation on Risa becomes a hunt for a Ferengi treasure.
At the urging of his crew, Picard takes a vacation on the pleasure planet Risa, intending to relax. Instead he is drawn into an adventure with Vash, a charismatic archaeologist and treasure hunter, who is searching for a powerful artifact known as the Tox Uthat. Ferengi and others also have an interest in finding it.
The episode is a lighthearted romp that lets the Captain loosen up and show a more adventurous side. Vash is a memorable character who returns in later episodes, and the planet Risa itself becomes a recurring location. The story offers a nice change of pace with a touch of humor, and the revelation about the artifact adds a clever twist.
