Captain Picard teams with Kirk inside the Nexus to stop a scientist, Dr. Soran, from destroying a star system.
Star Trek Generations, released in 1994 and directed by David Carson, links the crews of two eras. It begins with the maiden voyage of the Enterprise-B, where Captain Kirk, who has been invited as a guest, is lost in an energy ribbon while helping to rescue refugees. Decades later, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the Enterprise-D learn that a scientist named Soran will do anything to return to that ribbon, which is known as the Nexus.
The film follows Soran's plan to destroy a star and Picard's attempts to stop him. Data, who has installed an emotion chip, struggles with feeling for the first time. The Nexus, a place where time has no meaning, allows Picard to meet Kirk, and the two captains join forces to stop Soran. The story explores mortality, regret and the meaning of a life of duty.
The film is the seventh in the film series and the first with the Next Generation crew. It passes the torch from Kirk to Picard, ending the career of Kirk and showing the destruction of the Enterprise-D. It set up the film series with the new crew.
