Two rival schoolgirls on Earth are brought together by grief when rogue synthetics attack the Mars shipyards where their families work.

Kima and Lil are schoolgirls on Earth whose families work on Mars. Small slights between them build into a bitter rivalry that finally erupts in a fight at school. Their quarrel is cut short when news breaks that rogue synthetics have attacked the Utopia Planitia shipyards on Mars, where both girls have family.
As their classmates watch in shock, the rivals reach for each other in shared grief. The short ends with a news report featuring Admiral Jean-Luc Picard, who is said to have called the attack devastating, and it served as a direct prelude to Star Trek: Picard by depicting the disaster that shapes that series' backstory and led the Federation to ban synthetic life. Set to a cover of David Bowie's Heroes, it was written by Kirsten Beyer, Jenny Lumet and Alex Kurtzman and directed by Mark Pellington.
