The Ferengi return Picard's old ship with a hidden agenda.
A Ferengi captain, DaiMon Bok, offers Picard an unexpected gift: the Stargazer, the Captain's first command, found drifting and abandoned after a battle years earlier. Boarding the old vessel stirs painful memories, and Picard begins to suffer from strange headaches and visions of the fight that ended his ship's service.
It emerges that Bok is seeking revenge for his son's death and is using a mind-influencing device to turn Picard against his own crew. The story gives the Captain some valuable backstory, since the Stargazer is the ship on which he earned his reputation, and it introduces the famous Picard Maneuver. It also gives a menacing edge to the Ferengi after their comic first appearance.
