An Iyaaran envoy who, in the guise of a stranded woman named Anna, kept Picard on a barren planet to study human love.
Voval is the Iyaaran pilot assigned to fly Picard to the Iyaaran homeworld as part of a cultural exchange. Gruff and uncommunicative, he seems an unlikely companion, and their shuttle crashes on an uninhabited planet.
In Liaisons, Picard wakes in the care of Anna, apparently the lone survivor of a freighter crash years earlier. Anna becomes possessive and obsessive, refusing to let Picard leave. Picard finally sees through the deception, and Anna reveals herself to be Voval, who had been exploring the human emotions of love and attachment, just as his fellow Iyaarans studied pleasure and antagonism aboard the Enterprise.
