The name given to Jean-Luc Picard after the Borg assimilated him.
Locutus of Borg is the name given to Jean-Luc Picard when he is captured and assimilated by the Borg in The Next Generation. The Collective makes him its spokesman to humanity, using his knowledge of Starfleet to prepare an invasion of Earth.
As Locutus, he leads the Borg against Starfleet at the battle of Wolf 359, a catastrophic defeat that devastates the fleet. The Enterprise crew, led by Riker, manage to rescue him and sever the link with the Collective with Data's help. Picard recovers but is haunted by what he did, and the ordeal affects his relationships and later decisions, notably in a feature film that sees him confront the Borg again and in his own series.
Locutus is remembered as one of the franchise's darkest moments and a central part of Picard's character. The story highlights themes of identity, violation and recovery.
