Admiral J.P. Hanson was a Starfleet admiral and friend of Picard who led the fleet that tried to stop the Borg at Wolf 359.
Admiral J.P. Hanson came aboard the Enterprise with Lieutenant Commander Elizabeth Shelby in The Best of Both Worlds, after the Federation colony on Jouret IV vanished. Hanson was an old friend of Picard and had been preparing Starfleet for an expected Borg attack.
Hanson urged Riker to take command of the USS Melbourne. When the Borg captured Picard and pressed on towards Earth, Hanson gathered a fleet to stop them at Wolf 359, where he was killed in the battle along with most of the ships. George Murdock played him.
