The crew discovers a fight frozen in a moment of time.
Picard, Data, Geordi and Troi return from a conference in a runabout and run into pockets of distorted time. They find the Enterprise frozen in place, apparently in combat with a Romulan warbird, with its warp core breaching.
Using equipment that protects them from the effect, they explore the frozen scene and work out that the situation is not what it looks like. Alien life forms have used the warbird's artificial quantum singularity as a nest, which has caused the time distortion. The team sends the creatures away and puts time back to normal, preventing the destruction of both ships.
