The USS Thunderchild was an Akira-class starship, a heavily armed design of the late 24th century with a broad saucer and a weapons pod mounted above its rear hull. It was one of the ships Starfleet gathered to stop a Borg cube bound for Earth in 2373.
The Thunderchild fought in the Battle of Sector 001, where the fleet suffered heavy losses until the Enterprise-E arrived against orders. Picard took command of the battle and directed the remaining ships to fire on a weak point, destroying the cube before the Borg sent a sphere into the past.
