A Romulan commander and a frequent adversary of Captain Picard.
Tomalak is a Romulan commander who serves as a recurring adversary of Captain Picard in The Next Generation, played by Andreas Katsulas. Calm, sardonic and devoted to the Star Empire, he matches Picard in a series of tense stand-offs along the Neutral Zone.
He first appears in the third-season episode The Enemy, where Picard must deal with him over a Romulan survivor stranded on Galorndon Core. In The Defector he springs a trap after a Romulan admiral defects with false information, only for Picard to reveal a hidden Klingon escort that forces him to back down. A version of him also appears as part of the illusion that deceives Riker in Future Imperfect.
He appears again in an alternate future in the series finale, All Good Things. Tomalak gave the Romulans a recognizable face during the series and set the tone for the Romulan stories that followed.
