Humanoids of Kaelon II whose tradition requires every citizen to end their life at age sixty in a ritual called the Resolution.
The Kaelons are humanoids of Kaelon II, a world whose sun was slowly dying. Kaelon society follows a strict custom known as the Resolution: on reaching the age of sixty, each person takes part in a ceremony and ends their life, sparing their families the burdens of old age.
Their most prominent figure on screen is Timicin, a scientist who worked with the Enterprise in Half a Life to test a method of revitalizing the Kaelon star with modified photon torpedoes. The experiment failed, but Timicin believed his work could still succeed with more time.
Timicin was nearing his own Resolution and fell in love with Lwaxana Troi, who urged him to defy the custom. When he requested asylum, the Kaelons threatened the Enterprise and his own daughter Dara condemned his choice. Timicin finally returned home to meet the Resolution, and Lwaxana accompanied him to be at his side.
