Marta Batanides is one of Picard's close friends from his early Starfleet years, along with Corey Zweller. The three were together on Starbase Earhart awaiting their first assignments when Picard was stabbed by a Nausicaan.
In Tapestry, Q gives Picard the chance to relive those days. Picard spends a night with Marta, which harms their friendship, and he avoids the Nausicaan fight. The more cautious path leads Picard to a life as an unremarkable officer, so he chooses to restore the original timeline. She was played by J. C. Brandy.
