Geordi is brainwashed by Romulans and used as an assassin.
Geordi La Forge is kidnapped by Romulans on a trip to Risa and subjected to brainwashing. He is programmed to assassinate a Klingon governor, in an effort to create conflict between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. Geordi is unaware of what has been done, and it falls to Data and Picard to work out what happened.
The episode is a tense political thriller, with the Romulans' manipulation as the main threat. It gives Geordi a chance to show some range, and it shows the way that the Klingons and the Federation are tied together by fragile alliances. It also helps develop the story of Klingon politics which was explored in other stories in the same season.
