Benjamin Sisko

Commander, later Captain, Deep Space Nine

The Emissary of the Prophets and commander of the station during the Dominion War.

Benjamin Sisko is the commanding officer of Deep Space Nine, a former station of Cardassian design that he transforms into a vital center of Federation diplomacy. He is introduced in the first episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as a widowed father and Starfleet officer with a strong grudge toward Jean-Luc Picard, whose Borg assimilation led to the death of his wife.
He is named the Emissary of the Prophets by the Bajorans after discovering the stable wormhole, and the role places him at the center of both spiritual and political conflicts. Over seven seasons he leads the station through the Dominion War, balancing duty, morality and his love for his son Jake. His relationships with Kira, Odo, Dax and Miles O'Brien form the heart of the series.
Sisko is remembered as one of Starfleet's most complex captains, a man willing to make morally difficult choices for the greater good.
