Kira and Dukat search for a missing ship with prisoners.
Kira hears of wreckage from the Ravinok, a Cardassian ship that disappeared with Bajoran prisoners, among them a friend of hers. Cardassia insists that Dukat go with her. They find the wreck and graves, including that of Dukat's Bajoran mistress, and Dukat admits they had a daughter, Tora Ziyal, whom he plans to kill to avoid scandal.
They find survivors forced to work in a Breen mine and free them. Kira's friend died two years earlier. Dukat finds Ziyal, who is overjoyed to see him, and he cannot bring himself to kill her, choosing to take her home. On the station, Sisko reacts nervously when Kasidy Yates is offered a job on Bajor and thinks about moving to the station.
