Noncorporeal beings who exist outside linear time within the Bajoran wormhole, worshipped by Bajorans and guided by their Emissary Benjamin Sisko.
The Prophets live within the Bajoran wormhole, which they also created, and Bajorans worship them as gods who dwell in the Celestial Temple. Starfleet often calls them the wormhole aliens. They exist outside linear time and at first could not understand beings who live from one moment to the next.
They communicate through visions, often by taking the form of people the viewer knows, and through the Orbs, sacred artifacts that have reached Bajor over thousands of years. In Emissary, Benjamin Sisko made first contact with them, explained linear existence, and was hailed by Bajorans as their Emissary. Over the years they guided him through prophecy, took part in the creation of his life, and protected Bajor.
Their most dramatic act came in Sacrifice of Angels, when they caused a Dominion fleet to vanish inside the wormhole at Sisko's request, in return for a price he would pay later. Their exiled counterparts are the Pah-wraiths. In What You Leave Behind, Sisko joined the Prophets in the Celestial Temple after defeating Gul Dukat.
