A Gamma Quadrant species of traders who live inside the Dominion and conducted secret commerce with the Federation through Quark.
The Karemma are a humanoid species of the Gamma Quadrant who live as members of the Dominion. They are a commercial people, and like other Dominion members they are allowed some freedom in internal affairs as long as they accept the rule of the Founders. The Dominion frowns on their trading with outsiders.
In the episode Starship Down, set in 2372, Benjamin Sisko leads the Defiant into the Gamma Quadrant for secret trade talks with the Karemma representative Hanok, with Quark acting as go-between. Hanok accuses the Federation of overcharging him, but the negotiations are interrupted by Jem'Hadar attack ships. The Defiant and a Karemma vessel take shelter in the atmosphere of a gas giant, where both are damaged, and the crews have to work together to survive. The Defiant eventually destroys the attackers and rescues the Karemma crew.
The Karemma return in Lower Decks, where the Cerritos is sent to take part in new trade negotiations with them, alongside Quark and Kira Nerys.
