B'hala is a sacred city of ancient Bajor that had been lost for many thousands of years and was known mainly through legend and art. In Rapture, Sisko becomes fascinated by a painting of the city, decodes the markings on its obelisk after an accident leaves him with heightened perceptions, and finds its buried ruins on Bajor.
The discovery is hailed as a miracle that confirms Sisko's status as the Emissary. Excavations at B'hala continue in later episodes, and an ancient tablet unearthed there sets off the events of The Reckoning.
