In 2373 the Jem'Hadar wiped out the Maquis after Cardassia joined the Dominion, and Eddington died helping the last survivors escape.
After Cardassia joined the Dominion in 2373, Jem'Hadar forces attacked Maquis colonies in the Demilitarized Zone and destroyed the movement within months. Starfleet then learned of a message suggesting that the Maquis had launched cloaked missiles at Cardassia.
Sisko took the imprisoned Michael Eddington to find the launch site. Eddington revealed that the message was a ruse to bring Sisko in, and his real goal was to rescue surviving Maquis held by the Jem'Hadar. Eddington was killed covering their escape, and the survivors were taken to safety.
