The Xhosa was a civilian freighter captained by Kasidy Yates, who made regular cargo runs through the Bajoran sector and formed a relationship with Benjamin Sisko after meeting him on Deep Space 9.
In For the Cause, Starfleet security suspected that the Xhosa was supplying the Maquis. Worf followed the ship in the Defiant and confirmed it had delivered goods to a Maquis vessel in the Badlands. Sisko then confronted Kasidy aboard the Xhosa, and she later surrendered to the authorities and served time in prison for her actions.
