Colonist stranded with Alixus's community on an uncharted world, who chose to remain in the low-technology settlement.
Joseph is one of the colonists stranded for ten years on an uncharted planet in Paradise. He and Vinod are among the first people Sisko and O'Brien meet when the two officers find their equipment disabled by a mysterious energy field.
Joseph is a loyal follower of the community's leader, Alixus. Even after O'Brien proves that she created the field deliberately to keep the colonists stranded, Joseph announces that the colonists have chosen to stay, and they remain on the planet as Alixus is taken away.
