As war with the Dominion approached in 2373, Sisko, guided by a vision from the Prophets, urged Bajor to avoid joining the fighting. Bajor signed a nonaggression pact with the Dominion shortly before the Dominion took control of Deep Space Nine.
The pact meant that Bajor was not invaded or occupied during the war, though the station above it was. Kira remained aboard as a Bajoran liaison under Dominion rule, and later helped organize resistance on the station.
