Starfleet captain stranded on a hostile planet whose radio conversations helped the Defiant crew, though she had been dead for years.
Lisa Cusak is a Starfleet captain stranded alone on a hostile world after her ship, the USS Olympia, is destroyed. Her distress call reaches the Defiant, and the crew keeps up a constant conversation with her during the days it takes to reach her, as her medication against the toxic atmosphere runs low.
In The Sound of Her Voice, Cusak offers advice that helps Benjamin Sisko, Julian Bashir and Miles O'Brien face problems in their own lives. When the crew reach the planet, they find she has been dead for about three years, her messages having crossed time. Sisko brings her body home for burial.
