Jake and Nog set out to get a baseball card for Sisko.
With war against the Dominion looking unavoidable and morale low, Jake sets out to lift Sisko's spirits with a 1951 Willie Mays card, using Nog's savings to bid at auction. The eccentric scientist Dr. Elias Giger wins it and will trade it only for the parts of a cellular regeneration chamber he believes can defeat death. To gather them, Jake and Nog perform a chain of favors for O'Brien, Bashir, Kira and Worf.
At the same time Kai Winn weighs a Dominion offer of a non-aggression pact, and Weyoun, staying in quarters next to Giger's, grows suspicious. When Giger vanishes, Weyoun has the boys beamed to his ship and questions them, then believes their innocent story and lets them go with the card. A light comic interlude just before the fifth-season finale, it ends with the crew's moods visibly lifted and Sisko embracing his son over the gift.
