The Miranda-class starship on which Benjamin Sisko served as first officer, destroyed at Wolf 359, where his wife Jennifer was killed.
The USS Saratoga was a Miranda-class Starfleet ship. Lieutenant Commander Benjamin Sisko was its first officer, and he lived aboard with his wife Jennifer and their son Jake. The ship was part of the Starfleet fleet sent to stop the Borg at Wolf 359 in 2367.
The opening of the Deep Space Nine pilot, Emissary, shows the Saratoga's destruction. Sisko sees Locutus of Borg on the viewscreen as the cube attacks. After the ship is hit, Sisko pulls Jake from the wreckage of their quarters, but Jennifer is already dead, and he is dragged to an escape pod as the ship is destroyed.
The loss left Sisko grieving for years and angry at Picard for his role as Locutus. A different ship of the same name, also a Miranda-class vessel, appears in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, where it is disabled by the alien probe.
