SAM, a Kasqian hologram created as an emissary for her people's Makers, becomes fixated on the disappearance of Benjamin Sisko at the end of the Dominion War. Meanwhile, Ake works with the Doctor and Jett Reno to help Chancellor Kelrec of the War College prepare for a peace meeting, and Kelrec reveals he resents Ake for leaving Starfleet.
SAM's research leads nowhere until Professor Illa Dax shares Jake Sisko's book Anslem, and SAM interacts with Jake through it. Illa reveals that she is the current host of the Dax symbiont and that Sisko was her friend. The episode was directed by Larry Teng and written by Kirsten Beyer and Tawny Newsome.
