A Galaxy-class starship destroyed by Jem'Hadar fighters in 2370, an early sign of the Dominion's strength.
The USS Odyssey was a Galaxy-class starship commanded by Captain Keogh. In 2370 it was sent through the Bajoran wormhole after Commander Sisko and Quark were captured by the Jem'Hadar in the Gamma Quadrant.
The Odyssey joined the runabout and Deep Space Nine crew in searching for the prisoners, and Sisko and Quark were rescued. As the ships withdrew toward the wormhole, Jem'Hadar fighters attacked, and their weapons cut through the Odyssey's shields. The ship was ordered to retreat, but one of the fighters made a suicide run and rammed it, destroying the Odyssey with Keogh and its crew.
The loss of a ship of the same class as the Enterprise-D showed the Federation how dangerous the Dominion could be. It happened in The Jem'Hadar, the finale of Deep Space Nine's second season, and it led directly to the Federation's decision to send the USS Defiant to the station.
