A Starfleet officer and old friend of Benjamin Sisko who defected to the Maquis to defend the colonists of the Demilitarised Zone.
Calvin Hudson was a longtime friend of Benjamin Sisko and his family from their years in Starfleet. He served as Starfleet's attaché to the Federation colonies in the Demilitarised Zone along the Cardassian border, an area left vulnerable after the treaty that ended the war between the two powers.
Sympathising with settlers who felt abandoned by the Federation and harassed by the Cardassians, Hudson secretly joined the Maquis, the colonists' resistance movement, and became one of its leaders. When the Maquis attacked Cardassian targets and threatened to reignite the conflict, Sisko confronted his friend, and the two ended up on opposite sides of a tense standoff in the Badlands.
Sisko let Hudson go rather than kill him, but their friendship never recovered. Hudson was later reported to have died when the Cardassians and the Dominion destroyed most of the Maquis. His story introduced the Maquis and the divided loyalties that would draw in officers such as Michael Eddington.
