Sisko receives visions from the Prophets that threaten his life.
While studying an obelisk tied to the lost Bajoran city of B'hala in a holosuite, Sisko is knocked out by a power surge and begins having vivid prophetic visions. Guided by them, he locates the ruins of B'hala, an achievement that persuades many Bajorans, and even Kai Winn, to embrace him as the Emissary.
At the same time, Bajor has been accepted into the Federation. Sisko bursts into the signing ceremony to warn that Bajor will be destroyed if it joins now, and the Bajorans postpone membership. His visions are also killing him, and when he refuses treatment Jake, as next of kin, authorizes the surgery that saves him but ends the visions.
