Chakotay is the first officer of the USS Voyager in Star Trek: Voyager. He begins as the captain of a Maquis ship who is stranded in the Delta Quadrant alongside Starfleet's Voyager, and he agrees to merge his crew with Captain Janeway's to make the long journey home.
He is a thoughtful, spiritual man who draws on his Native American heritage and often acts as a calm counterweight to Janeway. His relationships with the crew vary, and his loyalty to the captain is tested more than once. He has a romance with Seven of Nine in the later seasons, and he appears again in Star Trek: Prodigy, helping guide a new generation of young officers.
