Tattoo

On an away mission Chakotay finds a symbol on the ground that matches one used by his tribe on Earth, and a warp trail leads Voyager to a nearby planet, where every attempt to land is met by sudden, violent storms. Throughout the episode Chakotay recalls a trip into the rainforest as a teenager with his father, who was searching for their ancestral people, and his own rejection of those traditions at the time.
Stranded on the planet, Chakotay meets its inhabitants, who wear the same facial tattoo he adopted to honor his father and who are linked to the Sky Spirits of his tribe's legends. Their storms were meant to keep out humans they distrusted, and Chakotay persuades them his people mean no harm, ending the storm that threatens Voyager. In a subplot, the Doctor gives himself a simulated illness.
