Janeway wakes in a loop of death.
Janeway and Chakotay crash their shuttle on a planet, and Janeway is gravely hurt. She then lives through a series of deaths and restarts, first killed by Vidiians, then in an exploding shuttle, then put to death by the Doctor after catching the phage, and she suspects a time loop. Next she finds herself a ghost on Voyager, unseen by the crew, who mourn her at a memorial service.
Her late father appears and urges her to cross over to an afterlife. Seeing glimpses of Chakotay and the Doctor still trying to revive her on the planet, she realises the father is an alien posing as him to feed on her consciousness, and she refuses him. She is revived and recovers. The third-season episode deals with death and grief, and with the Janeway family's past, and ends with Janeway inviting Chakotay to a holodeck date to mark her return.
