An industrial Delta Quadrant species that solved a labour shortage by abducting outsiders, wiping their memories and putting them to work.
The Quarren are a Delta Quadrant people with an advanced industrial society. Facing a shortage of workers, their system secretly abducted travellers, altered their memories and gave them new identities, so that they believed they had come to the planet willingly to work.
In the two-part story Workforce, most of Voyager's crew were captured in this way while Chakotay, Neelix and Harry Kim were away from the ship. Kathryn Janeway became a power plant worker and began a romance with a local man. Chakotay returned to the planet, uncovered the scheme and, helped by the Doctor and a Quarren investigator, restored the crew's memories and brought them home.
