Kolopak

Chakotay's father

Kolopak was Chakotay's father, a man devoted to his people's traditions who tried to share them with his reluctant teenage son.

Kolopak was the father of Chakotay and a member of a Native American tribe living on a colony world. He cared deeply about his heritage and hoped his son would carry it on. Henry Darrow played him. Chakotay later honored his memory with the pakra ceremony.
In Tattoo, Chakotay's flashbacks showed Kolopak taking his teenage son to Earth's Central American rain forest in search of the Rubber Tree People, believed to be their tribe's ancestors. The young Chakotay dismissed the trip as pointless, but Kolopak's patience and laying down of weapons echoed decades later, when Chakotay met the alien Sky Spirits who had visited his ancestors long ago.
