Seven of Nine believes that there is a conspiracy aboard.
Seven of Nine upgrades her alcove so that she can absorb large amounts of the ship's records directly into her mind. Meanwhile the crew help Tash, an alien whose catapult can throw ships across hundreds of light years. Seven, piecing together data, becomes convinced that Janeway is secretly working to establish a Federation foothold in the Delta Quadrant, and she persuades Chakotay to investigate.
After another session in her alcove, Seven builds a new theory from much the same evidence and warns Janeway that Chakotay is plotting a Maquis power grab. When the two officers compare notes, they see that Seven's reasoning has broken down under too much information. Seven, now suspecting a plot against her, flees in the Delta Flyer, but Janeway beams aboard and talks her into returning for treatment. The catapult then takes Voyager about three years nearer home. The sixth-season episode plays on the series' own history, which Seven reads in a sinister light.
